A Horrible Parent

I was staying at my friend's house, her name's Chelsea. But I had this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

After a semester of school and staying over at her house I discovered something very creepy.

In her basement is a very old well. I got her talking about it and knowing that the well was the source of misery I felt in her house, I got her to reveal something I found incredible sad. She told me that her brother and her found toys at the bottom of the well. I was too scared to ask what they were but I had a feeling I already knew.

It was a week or so later when I was with her and her boyfriend that I saw these depressing images.

In my head, the image of a drunk mother dragging her child by her hair out of a room on the second floor, the child grabbing in desperation for anything she could and the only thing she managed to grab before she was put down into the well was her most prized possession, her rag doll. And not only did this drunken woman have a daughter tormented by the isolation of this well, but also a son.

I asked Chelsea how she felt when she was in her house near the well and she would get a distant look in her eyes and say "I feel like something horrible happened down there..." I asked her one last question about the well. I asked her about the toys. I asked "Chelsea, those toys you found in the well... Was there a rag doll with brown hair, blue eyes and a little yellow lunch box?" Her eyes were wide, almost like I had scared her.

What she said next confirmed my connection between the well and the spirits lingering in her house.

She asked me in quiet desperation, "Jess...How did you know about the toys...? I never told you what they were..."

Her house is occupied with the spirits of two small children, the memories of the children tormented by their drunken mother and images of the tormenting well.

I don't believe these entities to be angry or a threat but anyone who enters this house is instantly able to feel that something horrible happened there. I can tell they feel this way by the look in their eyes. I here the children scream in my mind when I'm at her house.

This is not a place I like to stay in and I haven't been back to my friend's house since I discovered what went on there.

Brer Rabbit Earns a Dollar-A-Minute

Read the article and leave a comment.

One fine morning, Brer Fox decided to plant him a patch of goober peas. He set to with a will and before you know it, he had raked and hoed out a beautiful patch of ground and he put in a fine planting of peas. It didn't take too long before those goober vines grew tall and long and the peas ripened up good and smart.

Now Brer Rabbit, he'd watched Brer Fox planting the goobers and he told his children and Miz Rabbit where they could find the patch. Soon as those peas were ripe, the little Rabbits and Brer Rabbit would sneak on in and grab up them goobers by the handfuls. It got so bad that when Brer Fox came to the goober patch, he could hardly find a pea to call his own.

Well, Brer Fox, he was plenty mad that he'd worked so hard on those peas only to have them eaten by someone else. He suspected that Brer Rabbit was to blame for this, but the rascally rabbit had covered his tracks so well that Brer Fox couldn't catch him. So Brer Fox came up with a plan. He found a smooth spot in his fence where a cunning rabbit could sneak in, and he set a trap for Brer Rabbit at that spot. He tied a rope to a nearby hickory sapling and bent it nearly double. Then he took the other end of the rope and made a loop knot that he fastened with a trigger right around the hole in the fence. If anybody came through the crack to steal his peas, the knot would tighten around their body, the sapling would spring upright, and they would be left hanging from the tree for everyone to see.

The next morning, Brer Rabbit came a-slipping through the hole in the fence. At once, the trigger sprung, the knot tightened on his forelegs, and the hickory tree snapped upright, quick as you please. Brer Rabbit found himself swung aloft betwixt the heaven and the earth, swinging from the hickory sapling. He couldn't go up and he couldn't go down. He just went back and forth.

Brer Rabbit was in a fix, no mistake. He was trying to come up with some glib explanation for Brer Fox when he heard someone a-rumbling and a-bumbling down the road. It was Brer Bear, looking for a bee-tree so he could get him some honey. As soon as Brer Rabbit saw Brer Bear, he came up with a plan to get himself free.

"Howdy, Brer Bear," he called cheerfully. Brer Bear squinted around here and there, wondering where the voice had come from. Then he looked up and saw Brer Rabbit swinging from the sapling.

"Howdy Brer Rabbit," he rumbled. "How are you this morning?"

"Middling, Brer Bear," Rabbit replied. "Just middling."

Brer Bear was wondering why Brer Rabbit was up in the tree, so he asked him about it. Brer Rabbit grinned and said that he was earning a dollar-a-minute from Brer Fox.

"A dollar-a-minute!" Brer Bear exclaimed. "What for?"

"I'm keeping the crows away from his goober patch," Brer Rabbit explained, and went on to say that Brer Fox was paying a dollar-a-minute to whomever would act as a scarecrow for him.

Well, Brer Bear liked the sound of that. He had a big family to feed, and he could use the money. When Brer Rabbit asked him if he would like to have the job, Brer Bear agreed. Brer Rabbit showed him how to bend the sapling down and remove the knot from his forepaws. When Brer Rabbit was free, Brer Bear climbed into the knot and soon he was hanging aloft betwixt heaven and earth, swing to and from the sapling and growling at the birds to keep them away from the goober patch.

Brer Rabbit laughed and laughed at the sight of Brer Bear up in the sapling. He scampered down the road to Brer Fox's place and told him that his trap was sprung and the goober thief was hanging from the hickory tree. Brer Fox grabbed his walking stick and ran down the road after Brer Rabbit. When he saw Brer Bear hanging there, Brer Fox called him a goober thief. Brer Fox ranted and raved and threatened to hit Brer Bear with his walking stick. He yelled so loud that Brer Bear didn't have time to explain nothing!

Brer Rabbit knew that Brer Bear would be plenty mad at him when he found out he had been tricked, and so he ran down the road and hid in the mud beside the pond, so that only his eyeballs stuck out, making him look like a big old bullfrog. By and by, a very grumpy Brer Bear came lumbering down the road.

"Howdy, Brer Bullfrog," Brer Bear said when he saw Brer Rabbit's eyes sticking out of the mud. "You seen Brer Rabbit anywhere?"

"Brer Rabbit jest ran on down the road," he told the grumpy Brer Bear in a deep croaking voice that sounded just like the voice of a frog. Brer Bear thanked him and trotted down the road, growling fiercely.

When Brer Bear was out of sight, Brer Rabbit jumped out of the mud. He washed himself off in the pond and then scampered home, chuckling to himself at how he'd escaped from Brer Fox and Brer Bear, and already thinking up a new way to get into Brer Fox's goober patch to get him some peas to eat.

Brer Rabbit meets a Tar Baby

Well now, that rascal Brer Fox hated Brer Rabbit on account of he was always cutting capers and bossing everyone around. So Brer Fox decided to capture and kill Brer Rabbit if it was the last thing he ever did! He thought and he thought until he came up with a plan. He would make a tar baby! Brer Fox went and got some tar and he mixed it with some turpentine and he sculpted it into the figure of a cute little baby. Then he stuck a hat on the Tar Baby and sat her in the middle of the road.

Brer Fox hid himself in the bushes near the road and he waited and waited for Brer Rabbit to come along. At long last, he heard someone whistling and chuckling to himself, and he knew that Brer Rabbit was coming up over the hill. As he reached the top, Brer Rabbit spotted the cute little Tar Baby. Brer Rabbit was surprised. He stopped and stared at this strange creature. He had never seen anything like it before!

"Good Morning," said Brer Rabbit, doffing his hat. "Nice weather we're having."

The Tar Baby said nothing. Brer Fox laid low and grinned an evil grin.

Brer Rabbit tried again. "And how are you feeling this fine day?"

The Tar Baby, she said nothing. Brer Fox grinned an evil grin and lay low in the bushes.

Brer Rabbit frowned. This strange creature was not very polite. It was beginning to make him mad.

"Ahem!" said Brer Rabbit loudly, wondering if the Tar Baby were deaf. "I said 'HOW ARE YOU THIS MORNING?"

The Tar Baby said nothing. Brer Fox curled up into a ball to hide his laugher. His plan was working perfectly!

"Are you deaf or just rude?" demanded Brer Rabbit, losing his temper. "I can't stand folks that are stuck up! You take off that hat and say 'Howdy-do' or I'm going to give you such a lickin'!"

The Tar Baby just sat in the middle of the road looking as cute as a button and saying nothing at all. Brer Fox rolled over and over under the bushes, fit to bust because he didn't dare laugh out loud.

"I'll learn ya!" Brer Rabbit yelled. He took a swing at the cute little Tar Baby and his paw got stuck in the tar.

"Lemme go or I'll hit you again," shouted Brer Rabbit. The Tar Baby, she said nothing.

"Fine! Be that way," said Brer Rabbit, swinging at the Tar Baby with his free paw. Now both his paws were stuck in the tar, and Brer Fox danced with glee behind the bushes.

"I'm gonna kick the stuffin' out of you," Brer Rabbit said and pounced on the Tar Baby with both feet. They sank deep into the Tar Baby. Brer Rabbit was so furious he head-butted the cute little creature until he was completely covered with tar and unable to move.

Brer Fox leapt out of the bushes and strolled over to Brer Rabbit. "Well, well, what have we here?" he asked, grinning an evil grin.

Brer Rabbit gulped. He was stuck fast. He did some fast thinking while Brer Fox rolled about on the road, laughing himself sick over Brer Rabbit's dilemma.

"I've got you this time, Brer Rabbit," said Brer Fox, jumping up and shaking off the dust. "You've sassed me for the very last time. Now I wonder what I should do with you?"

Brer Rabbit's eyes got very large. "Oh please Brer Fox, whatever you do, please don't throw me into the briar patch."

"Maybe I should roast you over a fire and eat you," mused Brer Fox. "No, that's too much trouble. Maybe I'll hang you instead."

"Roast me! Hang me! Do whatever you please," said Brer Rabbit. "Only please, Brer Fox, please don't throw me into the briar patch."

"If I'm going to hang you, I'll need some string," said Brer Fox. "And I don't have any string handy. But the stream's not far away, so maybe I'll drown you instead."

"Drown me! Roast me! Hang me! Do whatever you please," said Brer Rabbit. "Only please, Brer Fox, please don't throw me into the briar patch."

"The briar patch, eh?" said Brer Fox. "What a wonderful idea! You'll be torn into little pieces!"

Grabbing up the tar-covered rabbit, Brer Fox swung him around and around and then flung him head over heels into the briar patch. Brer Rabbit let out such a scream as he fell that all of Brer Fox's fur stood straight up. Brer Rabbit fell into the briar bushes with a crash and a mighty thump. Then there was silence.

Brer Fox cocked one ear toward the briar patch, listening for whimpers of pain. But he heard nothing. Brer Fox cocked the other ear toward the briar patch, listening for Brer Rabbit's death rattle. He heard nothing.

Then Brer Fox heard someone calling his name. He turned around and looked up the hill. Brer Rabbit was sitting on a log combing the tar out of his fur with a wood chip and looking smug.

"I was bred and born in the briar patch, Brer Fox," he called. "Born and bred in the briar patch."

And Brer Rabbit skipped away as merry as a cricket while Brer Fox ground his teeth in rage and went home.

Is This A Warning Or Nothing?

Not too long ago I posted my story about Himiko. I am still 18 at the moment and about a few weeks ago something started happening. Before the experience, let me give a few background information.

I am living in a house that's around 200-300 years old. There have been people to have died there without an explanation. This house is also a haunted house. Now I have always been able to see, hear, feel and speak to spirits. I do use an ouija board and I know of the danger. The main thing is that spirits are afraid of me at times.

Recently I been seeing lots of new spirits. They seem to be running from the spirit world I been told by some spirits. This could be a result of a couple of things happening. First there could be too strong of dark energy. Secondly some believe our world and spirit world are colliding (or fusing).

Well like I said, I have been talking to new spirits. There is a certain spirit that keeps saying and spelling certain words. It keep saying "kur nisno ligua deqir mushia" Himiko, me or the other spirits do not know what that means and can't seem to find its meaning. I feel as if this is some sort of warning.

This is all true. I would really like to hear what you people think and if any one knows the meaning of this.

Is A Ghost Following Me? Need Help

This is the first time I have ever written or talked about these incidences, but I was scared enough today that I realized I need some other people's opinions.

I went to college in Philadelphia and lived in a very old home with a number of other people. We knew the history of the house, and a number of my friends had experiences with the paranormal. The most I had was hearing odd sounds when in the home alone and the feeling of being watched.

After I graduated I moved to another city close by, Wilmington Delaware, to an old home. At first it seemed fine, but after 2 years things started to happen in the kitchen, where utensils and food would be thrown from the counter top when we left the room.

I also had a dog whose toys would be placed oddly in the home without him being there. Then a friend moved in and things started to happen to him. Lights would turn off after he left the room, the washer and dryer would turn on when he went into the basement. Just odd things.

I also had other things happen to me at this time. My dog would start barking at nothing, doors would close (I would chalk it up to the wind etc...). My other roommate saw a shadow and some odd reflection in the mirror and then my dog would bark at my room and suddenly the door would shut when I wasn't there. We jokingly named the 'ghost' Charlie.

I then moved home to my parents. I started having very vivid dreams of my grandfather who passed away a few years back. He was telling me about things to come and that he wanted me to tell certain family members things that he regretted etc... Most of the stuff I had no clue happened but apparently a few of my aunts and uncles said what he told me was valid.

Soon after that I moved to Philadelphia Pennsylvania with a few friends (one who briefly lived with me in DE). This is when things got weird. It's only been a few weeks but stuff has begun to happen. The house feels ok, except for the third floor (where I live). There is a bathroom on this floor which is where stuff began to happen.

The first event occurred 1.5 weeks after moving in. One of our roommates noticed that on a random night at around 3:00 AM the bathtub was turned on, he thought someone was in there so he ignored it. The next morning when he was leaving for work at about 7:00 AM he went into the bathroom and the water was still turned on. To date no one has claimed responsibility for this.

A few days later I was out with another roommate and the house was empty, when I got back everything in the bathroom was thrown into the sink or into the bathtub, if it was on the side of the bathtub then it was now inside of it and the same with the sink. We had the windows open that night, and although it wasn't windy rather quite a stagnant night, I assumed that was the cause.

The next odd event happened when my brother was over for a party, less than a week later. Since the house is on a very slight angle, every time the bathroom door is left open it will slowly shut. However when my brother went in to use the bathroom the door opened if not completely shut. That same night I used the bathroom but it would slowly shut when I went in.

However the most disturbing thing happened today. I stayed home from work and took care of some chores. I thought it would be a good idea to get settled into the bathroom so I started to clean it. I was almost done when I began to empty a drink into the sink. I placed the glass back onto the counter and just stood there for a minute thinking of what to do next.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, one of the light bulbs in the track lighting above me suddenly just shattered all over me, cutting my hand. I had no lights on being that it was the middle of the day and the bathroom has a skylight, I didn't shake or make any hard vibrations rather I was just standing there, and there were no loud cars or buses coming down the street.

Honestly I have no clue what's going on but this is getting creepy. My mom has a history of 'seeing things before they happen' but not me. I just want to know what's going on. Do I have a poltergeist? Am I making this happen? And most worrisome, is a ghost following me?! What should I do?

FYI... I am a male in my mid 20's I've read this stuff mostly happens to females.

Ghostly Whisp Of A Tail

This is my first of many stories I will write about. It kind of freaks me out and I wonder whether you could help me.

My first experience was when I was eight years old a month after we just moved into our house. I scurried to the bathroom to go "potty" as I was washing my hands I turned and nearly screamed. I saw a Ghostly whisp of a tail and the upper half of a body passing through my bedroom door which was closed. I high tailed it down stairs and told my parents. My parents said I was seeing things.

My second experience was when I was in the 4th grade. I got off my school bus, and walked towards my house. I turned the knob of the door. It was locked. I got very scared and kept pushing on the door until finally I gave it a little push and it popped open. I remember by the door it was oddly cold. I heard someone upstairs and called out thinking it was my mother or one of my three sisters. No one reply.

About 3 months ago I saw a glowing blue ball of light and later an image of a girl with blond, hair blue eyes maybe 13 the same age as me.

I remember brushing my teeth in the bathroom when I heard someone walking in the hallway. When I looked over there was nobody in the hallway. This has occurred many times.

I was at school in science class doing my work when my friend Hailey went to the bathroom. I heard someone come into the room about 5 minute's later, walk behind me and sit in the chair next to me. Thinking it was Hailey I looked over but there was no one there. About 1 minute later Hailey came in. She is also haunted by a ghost.

I got out of the shower and my mirror fogged up like always. I always lock my bathroom door too. When I looked at the mirror, there was a broken heart drawn into the steam on the mirror.

Can anyone explain or tell me how to communicate with my ghost a bit more? She also likes to walk around at night between 2-4 in the morning or tap on my door making it creak.

Thanks everyone!

Black Figure Not A Shadow

This is my first time writing about what happened, but my mother and I would like to know what is going on and maybe you could answer a few questions for me. I have read all about shadow people and this is not a shadow person.

It started when I was in elementary school (in the 80's). I lived with my mother and my step father in Fife Washington. My step father was away for work so I decided to get his army cot out and sleep on it in the living room. I had no problem falling asleep but I was woken in the middle of the night by things being thrown around in my room. The curious person I am I went to check it out. When I got to the door of my room my closet opened up and a very black at least seven feet tall (his head was almost to the ceiling) red eyed looked like a man not see through at all (paint a human basketball player with black paint and blood red eyes) started walking towards me. I did not run or scream I just looked until he touched me. At that point I ran to my mother's room and I of course told her there was a monster in my room and she then pulled me in her room and locked the door.

The next night I decided to be strong because I wanted my step dad to be proud of me so I slept in my room. My room had a bathroom in it and I had my mom keep the light on for me so I wouldn't be so scared it turns out that light does not matter but this time it was different. What came to me that night looked like a king and stood in my door way with a sword. I was completely terrified and had no way out of my room so I very quickly learned the alphabet backwards and fell asleep.

On the very next day I was approached by about seven kids my age I have never seen before. They asked me if I could come and play I asked my mom and she said I could go with them. So we went to a woman named Mary's house and we played but while we were there she got very ill. This is where it gets strange as I was helping Mary I looked around and I was the only one there.

My mother talks to me about it and admits the reason she locked the door is because she seen the black red eyed thing also and to this day she still does. My grandmother told me that my mother carries demons with her they follow her but we are more worried because my two girls are seeing this creature now.

My oldest has seen it in my room watching me sleep. My youngest sees it in the hallway by my room.

It is as solid as a human is, Black as paint with red eyes, very tall. Is not afraid of you it will not run from you.

Please help me figure out what this is I have had so many more things happen to me but I don't want my children to suffer from this.

A Visit For A Little Girl

This story was told to me by my mom, When I was 3 years old my Uncle Gary and Aunt Lorraine took me to spend a night at their house, They made me a bed at the bottom of theirs and there I fell asleep. In my Uncle Gary's house there are two doors one on the right side of the house and one on the left side of the house. The door on the left side they never used because they found it too hard to open and close so they always used the door on the right.

On this night I woke up and managed to open that door on the left, with nothing on but a white nightgown and socks on my feet I walked up Mayor Avenue which is a hill with my shoes in my hand. I stopped at the top and just stood there. A couple coming home from a night on the town noticed me and stopped their car; the man who was driving the car didn't want to touch me because he was afraid that if anything happened to me he would be to blame. So he told his wife to go to their house which was only across the street and grab a comforter so that he can wrap me up and keep me warm.

They brought me back to their house where they called the police and told them of what happened. At 2:45 am my mom received a call it was the police officer of course my mom thinking this was a practical joke went off on him until he said do you have a daughter named Melissa? My mom said yes he then said well we have her.

My mom told me that when I was young she would always question me and ask me what my name was and where did I live what was her name and where did she live just in case I happened to get lost. I gave this information to the police officer who looked my number up in the phone book. My mom called my Uncle Gary and told him and they both went to the home and picked me up.

When we got back to my Uncle Gary's place the police officer asked me why did I leave the house and this is what I said... I woke up and a lady in a blue dress told me to walk up the hill and wait because she was going to take me to see my Poppy Harding in heaven. She walked with me and sang to me. Then they asked me where did I see this woman in the blue dress and I pointed to the window in the living room and said she was in the corner of the window. Let's just say that everyone in the room was shocked by what they just heard especially coming from a 3-year-old.

The next morning my mom, my nan and myself went to see a priest named Father Walsh and he asked me to tell him the story but I couldn't remember. Later that evening it hit my mom. Before I was born my grandfather's cousin who everyone called "Kitty" lived with them and before she died she had two wishes. One was to receive her old age pension and the other was to see my mom's baby. When she died my mom was 5 months pregnant with me. My mom told me that the day she was buried she wore a blue dress. So she is completely 100% convinced that Kitty visited me on that night. Father Walsh said to my mom, "your child has an early calling I don't know of what or when but she is blessed."

This is when I started to see and talk to the departed. Twenty-four years later I'm still doing it and now I know how this came to be.

A Pushing, Stealing, Cutting Ghost?

I don't know if this is necessary, but if this information is needed, I am a female seventeen year-old. Next year is my last year of high school. Well, first of all, I've always hated ghosts. I don't care whether they are the "good" kind or the "bad" kind. I have never wanted to see one let alone confront one. Unfortunately, my hate for them only comes from the fact that I fear them so much. I don't know much about ghosts or spirits, heck, I can't tell the difference between the terms, because the more I learn about them or watch them on YouTube, the scarier and more real they seem. (However, my friends seem to get real kicks out of seeing me nearly shiat my pants, hence the reasons why I have watched ghost videos on YouTube.)

Anyway, as much as I'd like to deny it, I think I really have had some ghostly experiences. It started when my family had purchased this old house, it was our first house that we've ever lived in since we've been so used to living in a townhouse. I think it was about 2007 of summer, because that was the year I was entering high school, and my family bought this house because of its location. This was in Alberta, Edmonton of Canada by the way.

After we have settled in about a couple months later, strange things begin to happen particularly around the second set of stairs that led to the family den. The family den has our computers and the TV, so my family went down there a lot. My sister fell down those stairs for the first time, and naturally we were all worried for her. However, when she got up she looked perfectly fine. While my mom gave a mini lecture about being more careful, my sister just went along to play.

I remember counting those steps after falling down those stairs became something like a routine. I'm not sure if that's quite the word for it. What I'm trying to say is that those stairs were frequently tripped upon. There were ten steps. The second time my sister fell down those stairs again something like a week later. However, each time she tripped down those stairs, she wouldn't get hurt.

My mother has fallen down those same stairs at least five times. For me, it must've been well over ten. However, we were never seriously hurt, which made me feel a little uneasy. I don't even get a bruise. My brother and father never fell on those stairs though. I had brief thoughts that it may have been a ghost, but dismissed the idea because the thought of my brand new house being haunted scared me so much.

My family figured it was the carpeting which made the staircase leading to the family den such a nuisance. So after having our share of falling down the steps, we eventually became very cautious when going downstairs to watch some TV or use the computer. Even so, we continued to trip.

That's not all either. I'm a bit of a pack rat, so I still have all the stuffed animals my friends had given me when I was a kid. (I still like stuffed animals.) However, when I saw one of my favorite stuffed dolls go missing, I began to panic. I hate losing anything I own, and I usually place my things somewhere specific so I knew exactly where they were. On top of that, this doll was given from a precious friend of mine, and it was extremely beautiful; one of my prized dolls. Though my siblings knew better than to touch my collection, I harassed my brother and sister to tell me where my doll was, but they swore they didn't touch it. I even asked my parents and they said they hadn't touched my room. After searching the house for a few weeks, I eventually gave up.

Some months later, I found my doll on the floor in plain sight, placed near my wardrobe. Now, I place my stuffed dolls at the top of that wardrobe, so yes, I had checked that area many many times, but it was never there until that day. This REALLY had me freaked out. And that's when I started to think that something from another world was screwing with me. I had to sleep with the covers over my head that night.

After about a year and a half of living in that house, my parents decided to split. My dad stayed at the house, while the rest of us moved to Toronto, Ontario, living in a condo. It's not that sad for me, I saw it coming a long time ago, and it happened pretty naturally. Moving out of the house was also a bit of a relief. But again, strange things started to happen after we settled in our new condo.

My mom recently purchased a very good quality potato peeler, and I know it's weird, but she must've really liked that thing. (It's that, or it was very expensive.) However, it went missing the next week. My mom is a neat person. What mom isn't? So yes, this was unusual. She began to harass me and my siblings where we had left the peeler, but since we're generally too lazy to peel carrots or potatoes for food, we told her we didn't touch it. I figured maybe moms have their moments when they lose something, so I didn't think much of it...

... Until my mom bought another peeler. When she couldn't figure where the potato peeler went, she went out to buy another of the exact same kind. But again, this peeler went missing. That peeler was huge with a nice handle and a shiny sharp blade for peeling, so I couldn't figure how something like that would've gone missing TWICE. My mom was extremely frustrated when this happened again. She searched everywhere, and could not find her peeler. She talked about how forty dollars went down the drain, and decided to purchase a cheap one. Strangely enough, this tiny cheap peeler stayed.

It's been a few months since we've moved into this house, and I'm finding small cuts on my hands in the most random places. They don't look like paper cuts though (I would know if it was a paper cut, since I draw a lot), and they don't hurt very much, but they are certainly annoying. I'm not sure, but these nicks look like they could have been made by fingernails or something. I mostly find them on the sides of my finger or the under-sides/belly of my fingers. The reason why I believe they look like fingernail scratches are because of how the skin sticking out is curved; like they had a really sharp nail, dug into my skin, and decide to peel it half-way. They've healed now, but I'm still getting strange cuts I've never noticed before.

Also, I don't know if this would be of any relevance, but I find myself waking up around 3 AM all the time. (Sometimes a minute or two earlier) I asked my friends about it and they told me it was jet leg from changing time zones, but its April now, I've moved to my condo in December. Because of this, I'm extremely drowsy at school and can hardly stay awake.

So why am I posting this? I came across this website by chance, and oh lordy, am I going to have nightmares for weeks on end. Though, your experiences are strangely addicting to read, and it seems there is helpful feedback as well. Since you guys seem to be experts in this field, I want this to be confirmed:

Is my family being haunted by a ghost?

And if so, can I get rid of it? I get deathly afraid of being around one... I know it's not causing any real harm, for now at least, so at the moment I feel safe. However, my family and I really don't need any more of this. There's already so much frantic commotion with my mom going to university and me trying to make up for the term I have missed, so we really don't want to lose any more of our things or get cuts that will bother us when writing an exam. I'd like ANY weight off our shoulders right now.

One more thing (if needed): my mom meditates, so she is a very spiritual person, though she doesn't believe in ghosts. Me and my sister are just afraid of paranormal things, but we don't meditate or anything like that.

A Presence Is Attached To Me And Is Attacking My Boyfriend

Apologies for the title; there's a character limit and I really didn't know how to give this experience a "specific, meaningful title" as it is ongoing...

To give a small amount of background info: I'm 29 years old, live on Long Island in NY State and I've been actively involved with the paranormal and have an obligatory, life-long relationship with it in many ways. My father was an Empath and had a number of very real experiences throughout his lifetime; he helped me deal with and understand my experiences through the years as that "gift" had passed on to me; he passed away in 2006 at the age of 47. He was very open-minded and though he was not religious, he was a very spiritual person. I was raised in such a way that I've never been 'fed' ideas or 'led' to believe anything - my father always insisted I educate myself and never subscribe to anything without careful research and consideration, to be aware, to keep an open mind, and to be receptive yet logical.

Although I've had many paranormal experiences, I've always felt one singular, familiar presence - no matter where I've lived, and was at one point chronicling my paranormal experiences in my old home on paranormal.about.com (a lot of heavy energy and poltergeist activity - very physical in nature and events had been witnessed by many people, including the 3 housemates I'd had as they all experienced it frequently); I have seen multiple spirits/entities/energies, etc, and when I'd felt I could no longer handle the 'visual' aspect of these encounters, I no longer 'saw' them as vividly but started to 'feel' them; now, it seems they form what I can only describe as "thought-feelings" in my mind - I can't really find an accurate way to articulate what exactly it is. I do see shadows, energy and lights - but mostly I feel an image start to form in my mind and that's what I go by. I've suffered from insomnia for years and have to take medication in order to sleep at night. Otherwise I'm completely awake and cannot sleep due to the overwhelming sensation of being watched. I'd been to psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists throughout my life in an effort to try to understand what was happening to me, and all have agreed that I'm completely sane. My mother, although in denial of her abilities out of fear, has prophetic dreams and has experienced paranormal activity as well. She blames most of it on me.

Currently, after a period of either dormancy (or ignorance on my part due to mt focus being on an overwhelming level of stress and personal issues) I've been experiencing this singular, familiar presence more than anything else. My current boyfriend is complaining that he's being woken up during the night multiple times, says that he has been choked and feels that a presence is intentionally keeping him from sleeping. I attempted to explain 'sleep paralysis' and how the brain releases chemicals during REM sleep to keep us mildly paralyzed so we don't "act out" our dreams, that sometimes we wake up suddenly, that the effect hasn't worn off yet so we may still be in a sort of "dream state" (hence hallucinations) and cannot move due to the protective paralytic until it wears off and things come into focus again. I've also explained that this can cause very scary and vivid hallucinations and the fear can be overwhelming. He's adamant that is not the case. Now, if this experience were unique to him, I would simply conclude that he is in fact experiencing "night terrors" or "sleep paralysis" and would not link it to what I'm experiencing. However, along with him, both my ex-fiancée (which preceded my current relationship and was a 5-year, domestic relationship) along with the ex I'd dated for 3 years preceding my 5-year relationship have complained of the exact same experience, all three vehemently denying sleep paralysis and acknowledging that they've never experienced this prior to dating me! I can't believe that this is the third relationship where my boyfriend is actually being attacked in his sleep. It cannot be coincidence. All three of them have been very convincing in their defense of this. I, myself have never experienced sleep paralysis or anything like these "attacks" but most certainly have felt this presence, especially at night when I'm going to bed. I'm fairly sure this may be one of the most common symptoms of a personal haunting.

Over the past few months, I've woken up with mysterious bruising, scratches and cuts as well; some rather large, yet I have no memory of injuring myself in any way or of anything hurting me... I am anemic so if I were to injure myself the bruising would definitely come easily and be quite apparent, but some of these bruises have either looked like someone had grabbed me with their fingers and were gripping tightly, or were simply dark, large and completely unexplainable (placed strangely: inner thigh, back, inner upper arm). I'd go to bed without them, and either wake up to find them once I'd showered or while I was getting dressed or have had them pointed out to me. Strange cuts have appeared, mainly on my hands and arms; sometimes on my chest, under the collarbone area. I really just thought that I'd possibly done something in my sleep or had forgotten that I'd bumped into something, but I've never been known to sleep-walk. My ex-fiancée (who again, lived with me for 5 years and who has observed me in my sleep many times), as well as my current boyfriend (whom I'm living with, and obviously also has been awake when I've been sleeping) have reported that when I do sleep, I sleep completely through the night. I've never had anyone assert that I walk in my sleep. I'm pretty much dumbfounded. The lights in our apartment have been turning on at night, as we go to bed with them off, and wake up to them on: the light in the foyer, kitchen, bathroom, etc... Every light but the room we sleep in! Just this morning the door, which had been locked, unlocked somehow on its own. Things go missing, and then turn up in random places a week later - very typical.

I have noticed that the complaints coming from my current boyfriend have coincided with our arguments, some of which are immensely frustrating and upsetting to me, and since I feel I'm not getting anywhere with him, I hold it all in and have considered that it is possible that my subconscious frustration could act out on its' own, BUT - it's not the first time this has happened, and this feels completely separate, like an external presence. I don't know how to describe it. It's doubtful to me that it's defending me in some way because it has (with what seems like intent) terrified *me* over the years - touching me in my sleep, slamming doors, opening doors, banging on walls, moving or throwing objects, breathing on me, calling my name and just keeping the air thick with a general unease that's palpable. It has never, to my knowledge, hurt me though, unless the unexplained injuries have been sustained from this thing? I don't know if they're related. This presence is completely segregated from the number of other paranormal experiences I've had, or other spirits I've felt or seen.

I'm fairly educated when it comes to general haunting, sleep disorders, etc but I really don't know how to classify this at all, or what to do about it. It seems I cannot get a handle on what this is. Usually I could feel if it was a human spirit, but this thing eludes me. I've tried cleansing, sage, crystals, salt, meditation and affirmations, "taking control over/claiming my home", etc... My father, while alive, warned against the use of a Ouija Board as it is a doorway and you don't have any control over what happens, yet suggested I try automatic writing? I always felt it was worse to attempt this because in essence you're allowing something in; to use you. I can see how it would be 'OK' for an experienced Psychic-Medium who channels and can manage a certain level of choice/control, but not for someone who has never attempted this with some kind of (seemingly) dark entity.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'd really like for this entity, whatever it may be as I cannot sense exactly what it is, to stop harassing me; my boyfriend. Even my Chihuahua is flipping out; barking all night at nothing and it's stressing her out. She paces back and forth on top of me all night and barks at whatever this thing is. I'd like to be free of it. It seems to be completely tied to me in some way. I'm apprehensive to attempt to communicate with it - aside from my occasional shouting at it, which leads me to feel foolish, lol - because I do respect and fear that I am completely ignorant to what this 'thing' is.

If anyone has had or is having a similar experience, I'd really like to hear about it. A solution? I am not crazy... The people that know me; some of which have known me for 20+ years, would all attest to the fact that I am sane and not prone to flights of fancy. I'm the first one to dismiss a bump in the night or a creaky floorboard as a "ghost".

Thank you in advance to anyone who has any input that could lead to a better understanding of what this could be.

A Lifetime Haunting

I was around 7 years of age when I had my first experience. One thing I should make clear is that I don't remember much of my childhood and I'm sure it has something to do with my experiences while I lived in this particular house as a child.

It was late of night and I couldn't sleep. I can't remember whether it was because I was excited as something was happening the next day, but I do remember I was sitting up in bed reading a book. (I can even tell you the book I was reading - Read it Yourself, Jack and the Beanstalk) I don't know when I became aware of it but I could hear footsteps right outside my bedroom window, back and forth, then back and forth again. It was almost as if someone or something was pacing, waiting and there was an air of anticipation. It unnerved me, but at that time I wasn't scared, I just remember thinking to myself "Who would be walking underneath my window this late of a night?" I knew it wasn't my Mam or Dad because I'd heard them go to bed.

For some reason Mam had never put curtains in my window and my bed was situated so that I couldn't see the window when I was in bed. I was aware that the footsteps had stopped but, again, at the time I thought nothing of it. I suddenly became aware of something or someone watching me. I felt compelled to turn around and look out of the window, so I did...

What I saw will be with me for the rest of my life and I still get heart palpitations when I think of it, I am now, as I'm writing this down.

A pair of eyes were staring at me and not just any eyes; they were red rimmed, hollow and evil. They appeared to be glowing as it was dark outside. I stared transfixed. I felt paralyzed and couldn't move. As sudden as the paralysis came over me it left and I was able to turn away. And turn away I did indeed. I was so scared that I grabbed my nearest teddy bear and cuddled down into my bed with the covers up to my chin and bawled my eyes out.

The feeling of being watched left me and the pacing of footsteps resumed. I don't know what time the footsteps stopped but I do know that as I drifted into an uneasy sleep they were still there and felt like they were reverberating through my head.

The next morning I told Mam and Dad what I had seen, they scoffed and laughed at me, saying what a vivid imagination I had. I felt like crying again. I knew it was real but no-one believed me. My Dad said that I should have come and got him if someone was walking around the garden and he explained the eyes as a car going down the road. It could have been feasible if it hadn't been for the huge hedge that hid cars from view and not being able to see the road from my bedroom window. But being the skeptical people they are, they rationalized and tried to explain it away as a natural occurrence - and maybe it was - but I didn't think so, and nor do I think so now.

From that time on I was afraid of the dark and didn't like the fact that there were no curtains in my window. Mam never did put curtains up though, not until we moved house. She said that because we were in the country I didn't need them.

A couple of weeks later I remember playing in the woods with my brother and friends. I can't remember what happened but I can remember a "woman" and "red shoes". I remember being scared and running like mad. It wouldn't be until years later, in fact a few years ago, that Mam would reveal something to me that disturbed me and is possibly linked to my experience.

I don't know how long it was after the experience but I'd made Mam move my bed to the other side of the room so that I could face anything head on. I had some strange idea that I would be safer if I could see the window. Mam had tucked me into bed and I had left strict instructions for her to "leave the landing light on" as Mam wouldn't leave a light on in my room. I had settled down to sleep with my hands on top of the duvet. I felt warm and safe - looked after. I became aware of a presence but this time it wasn't threatening and I didn't feel any evil, just warmth. Someone took hold of my hand which frightened me because I knew there wasn't anything or anyone in the room with me. I jerked my hand away and put them under the covers and this time I said nothing to Mam and Dad. They didn't believe me when I told them of my other experiences, why would they believe me now? Besides I didn't want to be laughed at again.

I can't remember if I had anymore experiences but after the holding of my hand I have always felt like I'm being watched over and looked after. We moved when I was 11 to a new area and I continued having paranormal experiences but none as frightening as this one. I became fascinated with hauntings and would read anything paranormal that I could get my hands on.

At 33, I still feel that whoever or whatever was there in that house is still playing a big part of my life. I have been starting to get flashbacks of my childhood and I don't know whether it has any significance to my experience.

About 2 years ago I was cleaning my son's room out and I had the feeling that someone was standing in the doorway. I turned around expecting it to be my husband creeping up on me but it wasn't. There was a man standing in the door, for just a split second and then he disappeared. I believe that this man is the same one that held my hand as a child and has been looking out for me ever since. I see him as my guardian angel.

I know the house I'm living in now has a spirit, but the spirit of a woman. The reason I know this is that my husband and I have seen her on separate occasions. Also, a couple of months ago we'd been shopping and decided that we would get a taxi home. As we pulled up outside our house the taxi man declared "this is my aunt's old house" and then went on to say "she lived here in the 40's". He helped us with the shopping and kept looking at the house with a dreamy smile on his face. In fact he seemed reluctant to leave. In the end he looked at us and his final parting words were "say hello to her for me". As we walked into the house I said to my husband "Did he just say what I thought he said?" We were both just a little freaked by this but as I was unpacking the shopping I found myself saying out loud "Your nephew just dropped us off and he says hello!"

Besides I'm digressing here, and as I mentioned before I have started to get flashbacks around the time I lived in that house. I was talking to my Mam on the phone and I was asking her about a particular flash back I'd recently had - I was in the living room with my dad, he was putting on my socks and telling me that it was okay and there was nothing to be scared of. I remember being very scared and nothing my father said would help - Mam said that it was nothing and when I asked my dad, he told me that he was taking me on his rounds as a gamekeeper. I didn't believe him. I was so used to my dad's job having grown up with it that I knew this wasn't the case. I still don't know whether my parents are deliberately keeping something from me or to this day they can't genuinely remember.

Mam went on to reveal that while we lived in there that I kept having "nightmares" about a woman in red shoes walking around the garden. I asked Mam whether she was sure it was nightmares I was having or something more, but as Mam and Dad are the most skeptical people I know, they are adamant that it was just nightmares. I on the other hand don't believe they were...

I have had flashbacks of a woman standing. She is wearing a white top with a red skirt and has red shoes on. Whether this is the woman Mam was referring to I don't know, neither do I know whether it is connected to what I have experienced.

The name Mary also keeps cropping up a number of times from spiritualists. No-one in our family went by the name Mary and I don't know whether it's connected or not. I do know that my time in that house is very patchy and I can't remember anything significant ever happening again. Whether it was too traumatic for me and I've blocked it out has occurred to me, but I'm too frightened of seeing someone about it in the event that I do remember something that I don't want to, or is so traumatic that it will affect me even more than it has done so already.

I feel compelled to write an account of my experiences because I feel that even today I'm still being haunted by it. Maybe there is a rational explanation for it and if anyone can offer one I'd be grateful. I also want to know where Mary comes into this. Is she the woman in red shoes or someone else? And more importantly has she got a message for me? There are so many things that come back to me, some I remember and others fade away again and elude me. The main thing is that I think I need help to solve this mystery that hangs over this experience.
