Hauntings in Jacksonville

My name is Clay. I am originally from Jacksonville, FL. I moved into a condo in Jacksonville with my family when I was eight. The house was empty except for one of the bedrooms. My bedroom closet had a Ouija board left in it. The previous owners wife liked to play with the Ouija board but for some reason she left it behind.

I started schooling and came home regularly and was home alone for a few hours until my older sister came home from school followed later by my mom. Strange noises from up stairs started happening like someone pacing around. I would yell hello, and start naming off anyone who could be upstairs and no one would answer and the pacing would stop. The noise would occur often after school and would change way it would sound.

One time the noise was of someone running around almost from room to room, and would end with a door slamming somewhere. The scariest moment was when the pacing started briefly then ended with what sounded like a bowling ball dropping to the floor. At the time my sister was three and I was playing and having her chase me around. I ran upstairs thinking she would follow while chasing me and a girl was coming up the stairs but it wasn't her, this girl was around the same age but her clothes were a blue dress almost like what was worn hundreds of years before. It didn't take me long to realize the girl wasn't my sister and the girl vanished through the wall as if it was a hallway.

Over time the noises occurred but I was young and got used to it living in the house for so long it was almost normal, and I never knew why when I told people they didn't believe me.

A few years went by in the house and surprisingly no noise was heard, the ghost seemed to just vanish as if they never were there. It wasn't until September of 1999 when the apparitions returned after not being around for a couple of years. My bedroom where the Ouija board was discovered when first moving in six years earlier had a ghost in the room with me. This one is the only one that really freaked me out worse than any other paranormal event in the house.

I was laying in my water bed and I got a paranoid feeling that there was something standing next to me. In the dark room there was only a street light that gleamed through the room. I saw what looked to be a hooded apparition no face all black, about six and a half feet tall and the form came through real good when it passed the window where the light passed around it. It appeared to be gliding over to the closet which was on the other side of my feet right side of the room. Then I glided back over to where it began, which was four feet from my face, then it glided back to the closet, then I watched it start to glide to where my door is (again opposite side of my feet but left side).

The problem is that my feet was hanging off the end of the bed and the apparition had to go through it to get to where it was heading and I watched it move across towards the wall by the door and I was to scared to move and right before it crossed my feet I hid my face under a pillow and my feet went from feeling the room temperature which was warm in my room eighty degrees to a freezing bitter cold then back to the room temperature. I then got up and ran out of the room not caring if the apparition was still there or not. For some reason now I have a foot phobia where before I wasn't bothered by feet, maybe there's a connection? I also sleep under a pillow, been like that ever since.

It started getting worse for everyone in the house. I went from being the only one that could hear the ghost, and I seen two apparitions already before my younger sister encountered a ghost in the same bedroom I stayed in before I moved to Connecticut. The door in the room was closed and something cracked it open, then my sister heard a little girl's voice say "Amanda come play". Amanda looked, rolled over and asked my older sister Alison who she shared a room with "did you hear that?" in which Alison replied she did.

I moved backed for a year and the ghost were still present in the house. I heard almost every night loud pacing up and down the stairs. It lasted for several months, I eventually had to yell shut up so they would stop and I could get some sleep. I told my mom about what I hear every night on the staircase and she shrugged it off as she did with all my other stories.

One night when she was home by herself she heard something running up the stairs, she thought it was an intruder in the house and she said she laid there helplessly waiting for the intruder to break into her room, but nothing happened and there was no one in the house.

Some time before that when my mom stayed in one of the three rooms in the house (the one next to the Ouija bedroom) she actually saw an apparition at the end of her bed. Sitting at the end of her bed was an old woman looked of Native American decent glaring at my mom, then she disappeared, then my mom did something like sit where the apparition was and said out loud "this is my house now this is my room" then went back to sleep.

She had the house blessed however, shortly after the staircase incident, unfortunately it didn't work because the doors would open on their own, sounds of walking around in my room was happening on a regular basis, thank God no apparition to go with it! There were pictures taken in the house that has orbs in it, though no apparition was ever caught on film in the house.

We now live in Connecticut where my mom is originally from. We moved to apartments called Mohegan Park apartments located in my hometown of Norwich, which is located minutes from both the Casinos here in Connecticut. Nothing happened in the apartment. There was no apparitions, no poltergeist, no walking around, or voices calling your name. It felt good to live in peace. We moved in those apartments in 2002 and lived there until 2006.

I moved out on my own and now live at another apartment complex in Norwich. The problem is that for the last two summers I have been fascinated with the supernatural, remembering what happened in Florida. My friends like to drive through back roads supposed to haunted by ghost. One road in particular is Hells Hollow road. The road is located outside Plainfield,CT. I took pictures off a lot which is located off the road while hanging out with friends and a very defined fog of a small person with a decomposed face was in the picture with us, and in several pictures which sparked my interest in ghost hunting.

I've went to several graveyards and experienced different feelings each time. My interest stuck with Hells Hollow. I've heard what sounded like Native tribes in the woods making noises with their mouths. I have also seen a large dark floating figure float from tree tops across the sky and into other tree tops (and I am positive it wasn't a bird). A woman named Maude was murdered about three-hundred years ago there accused of being a witch, as well as a young Native girl and her family by British troops in the same area. I took a picture in Hells Hollow, and the picture shows thousands of orbs and what looks like Native Americans being slaughtered or tied up. I still have this picture.

I also visited Maude's grave and took pictures there late at night and took friends and my cousin from Florida there and video tapped the event. A few days later while driving home from work I felt this pushing on the back of my seat. I got out of work at midnight. My friends thought it was weird, and a few nights later we hang out in a circle lot for a few minutes, then we got out open the trunk to get something from the back. Keep in mind both doors were left open. As soon as we opened the trunk something invisible ran from the trunk pushing objects aside then my driver side door slammed shut.

Since visiting Maude's grave and taking pictures of Hells Hollow trying to capture ghost this past summer, strange things been happening at my apartment. The trash can with a hinged lid appears to be hit by something and move back and forth until it stops. Doors pop open on there own and then close themselves. When I sleep at night I wake up feeling nervous and I feel like something is watching me. I feel like something is watching me, and tries to invade my mind with fear and anxiety that there is something around the corner. Vividly loud, evil looking beings enter my mind sometimes before I open a door as if I am being warned or just being attacked mentally to put me in fear.

I am fascinated by the paranormal after my experience as a child as well as what I experienced searching for them. I found that what I was interested in from my past was probably evil of no good, and by ghost hunting, I might be bringing that evil back into my life. I try to understand what I can't explain, and are they following me?

Green Pond Hauntings

When I was younger I always tried to avoid ghosts as much as possible because I used to watch Scooby-doo and it conditioned me to be afraid of them. Green Pond is a very small town surrounded by other small towns. Within a 5 mile radius of where I live I have heard of three haunted houses which are now torn down. What I know about them are second hand since I tried to avoid ghost.

The first was a house down the road that nobody has ever lived in since I have been here. According to the story a man was shot in that house and blood stains reappear on the floor no matter what you did. The second was a green house two or three miles away in Woodstock that nobody would live in too long. A lady who used to live there was pregnant and depressed and took her own life. She is the one that haunted it supposedly. The third house was a pink house five miles away in Gray Hill that was occupied I think when I first heard that it was haunted but was vacant not long after and sat and deteriorated over a period of twelve to fifteen years before it was torn down. There is also a subdivision that had some of the houses built on top of Indian burial grounds and a few of those houses were haunted including the one my second wife lived in.

Now you can do every thing possible to avoid a ghost but sometimes life will catch you off guard.

After my first wife died I got brave and would visit her grave when I had time-9:00 at night at a country cemetery where the closest house was a quarter of a mile away with the only street light. I stood my ground in the name of JESUS and told who was there that I had a right to be there and I would not be run off. Nothing ever bothered me except for one time when I thought I heard a ghost rattling chains, but I went to where the noise was and it was the rope on the flag pole hitting the side of the pole. Then one night I was lying in bed and woke up to someone yanking on my arm like they were trying to pull me off of the bed. I snatched my arm and said loudly "well just pull me off the bed then" and it let go and I had no other problems until I married my second wife.

My wife lived in a haunted house and I think she brought some of the ghosts with her-mainly a spirit that took the form of me and would try to seduce her. It also took her form and passed by the bedroom door once. It only tried to seduce her once and GOD rebuked it through my wife's voice. It was GOD vs. The spirit that looked like me and she thought it was me until GOD spoke to it through her. After this his head scrambled and he said loudly and angrily waving his arms and backing up, "if that's the way it's going to be just forget it-just forget it!" and he was gone. I asked her later if she meant his head blurred and she said no, it scrambled. She thinks that it tried to choke her in bed years later but she prayed and it released her.

I think that the only problem she had after that was not that particular spirit, but some I brought home from the graveyard one time when me and her were split up. I was lonely and angry and said at my first wife's grave "why don't you just come home with me"- I think something did, but I didn't know about it until me and my second wife got back together. She would hear footsteps, banging on walls, her bed being kicked every morning and someone saying "HI" in a female voice and my voice calling to her when I didn't call. I got madder than a wet setting hen because when they upset my wife I considered that messing with me! I tried calling them out saying if you got something to say, say it-if you want to fight, fight me-if you want to scare somebody scare me! This was doing it at my convenience of course and the bedroom was off limits.

I also tried to get them to leave going as far as anointing the doors and windows with new olive oil (extra virgin) that was bought and used only for that purpose and I did this while rebuking out loud. I also went through a ritual where I explained to it/them to get in the car (I even opened the door for them) and I would take you back to the cemetery-in which I drove to the cemetery and opened the door and let them out.

Things have quieted down but I do feel somebody still looking at me every now and then and my wife is still scared because of past experiences. I tried to get her to stay up here and face her fears even to the point of getting her to listen to my voice on the CB Radio talking to my friends while I was night watchman and she could talk back, but she finally resorted to sleeping at my parent's house 50 yards away.

Anyhow now they/it mainly picks on other people who come in when we are not home-people who have permission like a homeless man we knew and we let him spend the night alone-he didn't go to sleep until my wife and I got home in the morning and wouldn't stay another night and my wife's cousin and his wife who heard a lot of activity-running, door slamming and then his wife was pushed when they left out the door.

I guess next time I give them permission to come in and cook something I need to say it inside instead of outside so the ghosts can hear it. All I can say is I sure feel sorry for anybody that breaks into our trailer because they are going to probably get a "surprise" and if I could video tape it I'll bet that would be entertaining! I still don't trust these spirits though. GOD bless

Childhood Hauntings In Wisconsin

I remember things happening when I was about three years old... That's about as far back as I can remember. I had three nicknames already, Monkey-Boy, Spooky, and Baby-Bones. I was called, "Monkey-Boy," because no crib could hold me. I'd somehow find a way to climb out, no matter how high the bars were. "Spooky", because of my love for watching "Shock Theatre" on my father's lap on Friday nights. And "Baby-Bones", well... My father's nickname was Bones.

My mother or father would check in on me in the middle of the night. Apparently, Monkey-Boy would find his way out of the crib for one reason or another. Sometimes they would be awakened by noises and footsteps in the hallway, but Monkey-Boy would be asleep. Sometimes they would find him sleeping under the crib to hide from the monsters. Probably from watching too much "Shock Theatre."

That was in Cudahy WI, in an old house on Pulaski Ave. Once converted into a store, then back to a house again. My parents rented the house for almost 2 years, and then bought a smaller house in St. Francis, just a few miles away, and soon after my brother was born (poor kid didn't even have a nickname). Sometimes I still slept under the bed. Sometimes my brother hid with me. Whatever was restlessly bumping in the night in the old house apparently followed us to the new one. The noises were louder, and objects began to move... In particular the basement door. One day while our Grandmother was watching us, the door burst open, ripping the screws from the chain-lock out of the doorframe. The door was chain-locked to prevent my younger brother from falling down the stairs.

We lived there for almost 5 years. During that time, the noises continued. The footsteps still echoed in the hallway, and although I never saw it, I knew there was something in the basement. Sometimes I would freeze at the top of the stairs and look down. My toy-box and games were down there, but I couldn't get myself to walk down the steps. There were times I would be playing in the basement, and an overwhelming fear would cover me. I felt like screaming, but I remember feeling as if whatever it was would surely get me if I made the slightest move or sound. It would soon go away and I'd be able to run back up the stairs.

I was in fifth grade when we moved again... Still in St. Francis. We bought my uncle's house when his family moved. It was a nice house, right across from Greene Park. I must have been nine or ten by then, my brother was 7, and my sister was 4. She was seeing monsters.

I've been there countless times. My cousin and I were almost inseparable, listening to KISS albums, eating pizza and drinking root beer by the 12-pack during sleepovers. The basement was a recreation room, carpeted, panelled, full bar, TV and extra bedroom. Soon after we moved in, again I would find myself at the top of the stairs, afraid to go down to watch TV. The noises got louder.

One night in particular, I was watching my brother while my stepfather was watching a game in a bar a few blocks away. We were in the bedroom watching TV when the thumping started. It sounded like someone was on the other side of the wall, in the hallway, banging his fist... Hard. Then it stopped. We made sandwiches in the kitchen. I was back in the bedroom when I heard my brother scream. He ran down the hallway, still screaming when he jumped on the bed next to me. He said paper plates were flying in the kitchen. We both went into the kitchen and found about a dozen plates lying on the floor next to the basement door, which was closed.

The plates had been on top of the refrigerator on the other side of the room. My brother was spreading peanut butter when the plates flew in front of him, one after the other. Suddenly something banged on the door we were standing next to... Violently. We ran into the bedroom again, the thumping and banging literally chased us down the hallway and into the bedroom. Both of us were screaming. I picked up the phone and called the bar, screaming for my stepfather. It took him five minutes to get home. It seemed like forever. The banging continued until he arrived. He heard it once, and then it stopped. He checked the house, checked outside and found nothing. We talked about this recently; he doesn't remember us kids being so terrified as we were that night.

We stayed there for a couple years, and then we had to move. Something in the house was making my sister very sick. My parents thought it was mould in her bedroom. She spent a lot of time in the hospital, sometimes when she was violently ill... She saw monsters. My sister has diabetes. We thought the monsters she saw were hallucinations due to low blood sugar. I took my wife (recently married), to this house (and all the others I've lived in) some twenty years after, and we stopped to talk to the current owner. Tactfully, I asked if she had experienced anything out of the ordinary since she's lived there. She said no. I mentioned a few things that I experienced when I lived there. Then she paused. "Yes." She said. She told us about ten years ago, on separate occasions, she and her daughter saw a "demon" in the basement. About the most evil looking thing she's ever seen especially the eyes. She remembered it being red. She's never had a problem with mould in the house.

We moved from there, back to Cudahy. Ironically, the first night we moved in, my brother and I lay on the floor in the bedroom and watched, "The Exorcist." I think it's funny now.

A few months later, for the first time, I saw something. Up until we moved there, I had only heard things move, heard noises in the middle of the night, and had been terrified by something I couldn't see. The noises continued... I almost got used to that through the years. I got used to seeing cupboards and doors, which were closed... Wide open the next time I walked into the room. Now I was watching the doors open. And for the first time I was watching objects float through the room, and for the first time, I saw him, (or is it, "it?"). Floating above the stairs, which, again, led toward the basement. I could see him from his top hat, past his, (for lack of a better word... "Frilly") shirt and overcoat, down to his knees. I couldn't see his feet, but he was standing, or rather, floating in front of me. He was yellow with a red outline. I closed the door. Didn't look like a demon to me, but nonetheless, disturbing.

Things calmed down after a while. Months would go by without a sound or something moving around. It was like that for a few years. Then he/it became a bit bolder. He would come up behind you and breath in your ear. You could feel his hand on your shoulder. Once he pulled me backwards off a chair and I landed hard, flat on my back. Things happened more and more frequently. The unexplainable terror, the "ice cube down your back" fear that would grip you became more frequent. For eight years, the family dog wouldn't go downstairs.

I joined the Air Force after graduation and moved to California in 1985. I've pretty much been here ever since. As far as I know, nothing followed me, and none of the houses I've lived in since have been haunted. I've told friends here about my stories, (too many to tell, too many to remember). Some believe and some don't. That's fine with me. I have old friends in Wisconsin who've experienced the strange goings-on in some of the houses. Some of who refused to come inside after experiencing "activity." Others thought it was cool. Sometimes I miss it, but I can live without it.

My parents have moved at least twice since I left Wisconsin. Activity continued, but appeared to diminish quite a bit. Now my mother is twice divorced and lives with my sister... Still in Cudahy, and apparently "ghost free."

Everything I've written is true. Nothing is embellished to make the stories sound more frightening... If anything, what I've written is on the subdued side. I could write pages more, but I'm already over the limit I tried to set for myself!

And to wrap things up here... If anyone thinks they have an explanation for the, "frozen in terror for no apparent reason" thing, psychological or not, I'd like to hear it. Of all the things I've seen and heard... That sensation was the most frightening of all.

Another Story Of Unexplained Hauntings

Previously,I explained some unusual happenings that occurred in our home, and out of it. Some of the other things that took place, which, if you remember, occurred more frequently a month after my brother passed on. It happened almost all the time for approximately three to four months after his passing.

My oldest daughter worked night shift, and she usually got home between 12:30 and 1 a.m. It normally took her awhile to unwind once she was home. Most of the time she would take a shower and then watch TV in the living room until she got sleepy. She told me one day that while she was up, our pictures on our mantel started moving. She was kind of in shock and she said she got upset and shouted "Uncle, stop it now!" She said that it did stop and she was glad. She said a lot of times she would hear steps in our hallway, and she would try to ignore it, and at times she would wake me up. On one occasion when she woke me up, I went into the living room with her and she said "Mom tell Uncle that we love him, but he needs to stop scaring us." I did say out loud that we love him and to let me know if he needs help with anything. That one night it sounded like someone banged real hard on the back of the TV. I asked my daughter if she heard it. She did.

For several months our door-bell would ring, and when we would check, no one was there. I told my husband that maybe it was kids playing tricks on us, but he said they can't run that fast. My granddaughter, who was 20 months old when my brother passed, ran to our front door one day and was trying to open the door. We asked her what she was doing. She said Uncle wants to come in. She was so determined to open the door, that we finally did for her. My daughter said that sometimes when she would be driving, my granddaughter would be playing in the back seat. A few times she would talk out loud. This one time, my daughter and the babies dad heard her say "No Uncle, I don't want to play any more."

I had finally decided to go back to work after a few months. I think it was September. I work in the health field, so I have to wear uniforms. I change my uniform everyday, and on my days off, I wash all my work clothes. The day I did laundry I was putting all my uniforms in the wash, and on one of my shirts, a hospital name tag was on it with my brother's old room number. There was no way that could of been on. I wore that shirt to work, and I would of noticed, or someone would of, because I have to wear a badge at work. I was so shocked. All my uniforms always are cleaned before going to work. I showed my family and they were just as much shocked as me.

Things have slowed down a bit, though, on occasion something happens. I want to share with you now some things that have occurred recently. A few weeks ago, I was leaving my home, when I went to open my front door. It felt like someone was pulling the door knob back, and it happened twice. It really felt like when I was opening the door someone was closing it. I have a picture of my brother in my dining room. It was him receiving his first communion. He was twelve at the time. Well, one day my grandson got a hold of it and broke the frame. I took if away from him. I then had set it aside. About after a week I was looking at the picture, thinking that soon I have to buy another frame, when I heard a very soft womans voice say "I'm sorry." I was very stunned.

My mother passed away on March 2, 2008. If you note, my brother was July 2nd. When she passed, I told my family let's see if strange things happen a lot again. They didn't like in the past. The woman's voice I heard recently was not my moms voice.

Another incident that occurred was, I was standing in my kitchen one morning drinking coffee. You can see my front door right out the window. I saw a woman, and it looked like she walked out my front door, but the door was shut. I rubbed my eyes, and I even ran out the door, but she was gone. Two days later same thing happened. This time she was walking into my home. The door never opened. I saw her reach for the door knob. I remember she was wearing a sweater and she was dressed very nice, but casual, and she had a purse with a strap over her shoulders. She had light brown hair that was curled all the way around, her hair was a little above her shoulders. I didn't see her face very well, only the side of her each time. I told my daughter about it and she thought it may have been my mom. I don't know, because my mom was 67 years Old when she passed, and this lady looked young. I don't remember my mom having that kind of hair style.

I had a good friend that passed away in October. We hadn't seen or talked to each other for a long time. One day her daughter finally some how got our number, and called us. She told us what happened. The service had been two days prior to her reaching us, so I didn't get to attend, and I was hurt. She was sixty years old. She always had such a sweet voice. I wonder if maybe the woman I saw was her, and the voice I heard.

I do believe that when a loved ones spirit does stick around, that it does open the door for other spirits. Every once in a while, when I sleep, I can feel someone pushing up on my mattress. My husband feels it to, at times. Now this other thing is going to be kind of hard to write about. One morning I got up and I went straight into the hallway bathroom to take a bath. I didn't notice anything on me at the time. After my bath I was drying off and getting ready to put my robe on, when I noticed scratches all over my stomach. It looked like someone took a razor blade and just scratched in all kinds of directions on my stomach. I got dressed and I was very upset about what I saw. I showed my husband, and he said "My gosh, it looks like someone cut you all up." and I even showed the rest of my family. I asked him if he thought something got into our bed. He said he would of been cut up to. I do know that I had a dream that someone was scratching my granddaughter on her stomach, and I was screaming in my dream, though that was two nights prior to me having those scratches. I don't have long nails. In fact, they are very short.

I had another dream the night before Halloween. In my dream, I saw my mom and brother and they looked the same. I was sitting on a couch and there was a man next to me. The house had walls that was a very bright white, and my mom was trying to tell me something. I couldn't understand her. Then she screamed out my full name, to pay attention, then she said where they were, everyone stays young. Then she handed me a phone, and the number three kept on popping up. Then she grabbed it, and gave it back. Then it was the number four. I'm not sure what she was trying to tell me, though my birthday starts with 3-4. It's March 4. Also my son's cell phone starts with those numbers. I also remember, in the dream, my mom and brother both laying down on their stomachs with their heads turned side ways. I thought how unusual for them to lay down like that. Then I remember hearing my mom crying, saying she missed me, then I grabbed my brother's hand and I kissed it. Then I told him how much I loved and missed him and mom. Then I woke up.

Well, that following Wednesday my youngest son had a wrestling match at his school. My other kids and I went. At first the kids wrestle, then the coach blows a whistle, then they have to stop. Then one of them has to get on the floor, on his stomach, with his head side ways. And they wrestle again for a while. Did you get it? Same way my mom and brother did in my dream. I think my mom was really trying to tell me something.

Shortly after my brother's passing, I had a dream that we were both standing outside near my front door. It was very foggy and he looked very healthy. I asked him if he was OK and he said yes. I then asked him if he saw GOD yet. He said "No, not yet, but I will" then I said "Where are you then?" he said "I'm in a waiting place. We all go there." and that was it my dream ended. It seemed so real.

I need to stop here. There's so much more I would like to share. It's just very hard to continue at times. Will write again soon.
